I spent time with a dear friend the other day and asked how things were going with his daughter.
He stiffened. “Well, she’s getting to be that age, you know.”
I didn’t know, so I asked. His answers were chopped, strained.
“Ah,” I thought to myself. “He’s not comfortable going here.”
I was a little smug about it, actually. It might have actually been true that he was uncomfortable, but the truth I can prove is much closer to home.
