Listen to this on the Wild Creation Stories Podcast here:
Once there was a woman who pushed herself very hard to Be Better and Do More.
She prayed to be used for a greater purpose and spent every minute trying to do the Right Thing.
She filled her life with good deeds, loving actions and busyness.
When she became exhausted and sick from so much doing, the woman added just enough meditation, exercise and scheduled play to keep herself going.
Her life was one long To Do List.
Then one day, the woman came upon a mother nursing her newborn baby.
She was awestruck by the infant’s tiny fingers and toes, her tender skin and delicate eyelashes. Something touched her deeply, and she wept.
The woman cried all the way home, for she felt something was missing.
Falling to her knees, she prayed for guidance, and an angel appeared. Their wings were immaculate and glorious.
“Angel, I saw a baby today that was so beautiful, I wept,” the woman said. “My heart is aching. What can I do to be worthy of such perfection?”
“You wish to be better?” they asked with a smile.
“Oh, yes!” The woman clasped her hands.
There was nothing she wanted more.
“The baby you saw today, was there anything wrong or broken in it?” the angel asked.
“No, angel. It was the most perfectly beautiful thing I have ever seen.”
The angel set a gentle hand upon the woman’s shoulder.
“You have forgotten that you were once such a babe. Tell me, when did you stop being perfect?”
The woman looked deep into the angel’s kind eyes.
The woman saw that indeed, she was born perfect as the baby. She was a miracle containing all that was needed to grow and navigate life.
Over time, she had learned stories of Not Enough. She had learned Judgement and Comparison.
The woman looked and looked for the moment when she had been broken, and could not find it. All she had learned about Imperfection had not changed what she really was.
The woman realized:
She had never stopped being perfect.
“Now you see,” the angel said. “There is nothing required to be the perfection you are.”
