This question comes up repeatedly with clients:
“I know what I want to do, and I have the information to do it, but I’m stuck. How can I break through and just Do the Thing?”
In my experience, breakthrough comes easily and naturally when 1) there is a sincere desire to change this and 2) we take a fresh look at what’s happening.
Our minds and emotions move so quickly that it rarely registers. We’re in reaction before we realize it, and seldom give ourselves the space to notice what’s really going on.
So if you have an area of “stuckness,” you might bring it to mind now and follow along as we explore.
First, it’s helpful to know that whatever you’re doing (or not doing) it makes sense based on how the world looks to you.
So if you genuinely want to write a blog post or send an offer, and you’re not doing it, there’s a reason it looks like not doing it is a good thing. Most of the time the reason comes with a feeling of FEAR.
“If I publish this post, what will people think?”
“What if no one responds to my offer?”
You’re not feeling the action you want to take; you’re caught up in your unpleasant thoughts about it, and a common reaction is AVOIDANCE.
But there’s the thing: you’re not actually stuck.
There’s no quicksand sucking you down, and there’s no boulder in your path. You’re as free to take action now as you will ever be.
It just feels like you’re stuck sometimes, and our imaginations are so powerful that the stuckness feels like reality.
When you see what’s actually happening in your little mind, breaking through the “stuckness” is inevitable because you see that nothing was stopping you in the first place.
Here’s an example from my life:
I was promoting a retreat last fall, and the idea occurred to invite an acquaintance with a large community influence. Perhaps she would attend, or if not, maybe she would spread the word.
“I’ll shoot her an email,” I said to my partners.
Immediately after our meeting, I thought of sending the email and a feeling of dread washed over me, followed by wave of doubts and insecurities that felt like a million reasons NOT to send that email.
“I’ll do it later,” I said to myself.
Then I caught myself.
The thought of sending the email (the way I was thinking it then) was so uncomfortable that I was desperate for escape.
“I’ll do it later,” provided an easy way to slide out from underneath the discomfort without ever admitting that I wasn’t going to do it.
All of this flashed through my head in milliseconds!
But this time, instead of automatically putting off the task, I caught myself in the midst of creating fear with Thought and using it to talk myself out of action.
Then Wisdom reminded me:
What I think and feel can’t hurt me, and it doesn’t mean anything about what I should do.
Either I want to send the email, or I don’t. What I think about it just doesn’t matter.
It still felt uncomfortable, but that was okay, so I sat down, wrote the email and hit send.
If you’re waiting for an uncomfortable feeling to go away before taking action – and you keep telling the same uncomfortable story – you’ll be waiting a long time.
You can do it, with or without the story. Or you can not do it.
In either case, you’re still okay.
I’m inviting people who feel “blocked” in creating what they want to join me in a powerful conversation about Being Unstoppable.
What seems to be stopping you? Something like…
- Fear
- Insecurity
- Not enough time
- Lack of experience
- Self doubt
- Confusion
- What other people will think
We’ll talk about what looks like it’s stopping you, expose it as the vapor it is (Thought) and banish it forever.
Because nothing can stop the power and creativity of YOU.
If you’re up for this conversation, contact me and let me know. We’ll have a chat and unleash your magic.✨
Yours in love and play,
Steph
