Yesterday I wrote about the ONE THING you really need to do to get more coaching clients:
Talk to people.
This is the essential ingredient without which you simply cannot have clients, and that when you do, is the best resource for all your marketing and promotional efforts, as well as the secret to creating future offers people will actually buy.
However, it’s been brought to my attention that I may have left something out.
“It’s great that I need to talk to people in order to create clients, but HOW do I get them to talk to me?”
It’s a good and fair question, which deserves an answer in kind.
I’m guessing that you probably talk to people every day already. How do you manage it?
Some examples from my life:
- Greet my neighbor with “Bom dia!” and ask how they’re doing in English, or Portuguese, if I’m feeling feisty.
- Message my brother on Whatsapp to see if he’s around for a chat.
- Wiggle and dance in front of my sweetie while he’s engrossed in his phone until he finally looks up and rolls his eyes.
Perhaps you begin to see the “missing” element here, and it’s quite simple.
There is often something you’ll need to do before you can have a conversation with someone that leads to a client possibility, and that is…
…invite them to a conversation they’d like to have.
But it’s really not that hard, and you do it every day. I’m here to tell you that the same creative brilliance you exhibit to get your child or cashier or anyone to have a chat will work for you when it comes to creating clients.
It involves imagining what someone might be interested in talking about, and then inviting them to do it.
Imagine the conversation you’d like to have is a party. Make sure it’s one you’d like to attend, describe it briefly, and send out your invitations.
If people say yes, it’s an indication that you have a winner! 🎉
If people say no, or don’t respond at all, change up your invitation until you get the desired response.
It’s still very simple and doable, even if you sometimes feel nervous about “putting yourself out there.”
