When I was a little girl, I loved the Muppets.
Kermit the Frog was my favorite.
I can’t tell you exactly why, but to this day, every time someone mentions his name, I squeal with delight.
This morning I listened to my favorite Kermit song, “Rainbow Connection.” It never fails to bring tears to my eyes.
It’s a song about something humans seem to find both magnetically attractive and sometimes dangerous.
HOPE.
The optimist (maybe like Kermit and me) sees the rainbow as a magical symbol of hope that humans use to create magic in their lives.
The pessimist (also sometimes Kermit and me) sees the rainbow as an illusory fantasy worth nothing. God forbid we should have our hopes dashed and feel disappointed yet again – better to cut off hope before it has a chance.
In conversation last week we explored the question:
“Is the Universe kind?”
I don’t know that the Universe as such has a personality, but when I’m clear and feel into it…
The Universe feels like it’s laughing, delighting in every creation, both the dream and the nightmare.
And yet the moment I look in the direction of hope, it’s there for me.
Hope is a force in the Universe, a direction of easier and lighter, that’s always available.
Our very design is attuned to the Truth of Hope, so that we know where to look as soon as it occurs to us to do so.
Just like the flower knows to grow towards the sun, our being knows how to find the Light contained within.
In this way, the Universe is kind, though it would be easy to find examples of cruelty in our world.
The direction of Hope and Kindness is available no matter how bad it gets.
Kermit taught me this when I was a child, and it is alive in me still.
Thanks, Kermie. <3
What do you think? Is the Universe kind?
Yours in love and play,
Steph
