Once there was a woman with a Calling to CREATE.
She felt it stirring within her, like something waiting to be born that only she could do, and it was so strong she could not resist.
And so she began with that first action, taking a step without knowing where it would lead her.
It felt good. She knew it was right.
The journey was hers.
Then the Others noticed and began to chime in.
“What are you doing? You’re going to ruin your reputation.”
“What a crazy idea!”
“You should be charging for this.”
Every Other had an opinion and they weren’t shy about sharing. Some tried to help, others tried to repress what frightened them.
The woman stopped and thought.
Was this a BUSINESS?
The idea was exciting and scary, like being asked out on a date.
She decided to say yes to a Business.
The woman thought she knew nothing about Business, and so she began to educate herself.
She took courses, hired experts, and spent hundreds of hours watching videos about the opinions of Others about how Business should be done.
The woman thought about what was right and what was wrong about how Business should be done, and all this thinking weighed her down.
Her dream was still alive, but suffocating under the pressure of the Shoulds and Musts around having a Business.
The woman barely had energy for the actions that once inspired her. She spent all of her time thinking about what to do (and what awful things might happen if she didn’t get it right) and very little time actually creating.
One day she’d had enough.
“I give up!” she declared. “I do not want a Business.”
Instantly, she was freed from all the thoughts she’d had about what it meant to have a Business and be an Entrepreneur.
The woman was surprised to notice that she still wanted to create. The desire was still there, but now she was simply a Creator inspired to make something she wanted to see in the world.
The woman noticed that without her Business Thinking, creating was easy and natural.
She did what occurred to her to do.
Some of her ideas worked. Others failed. But she kept creating.
She loved what she did without her Business Thinking, and she kept at it. The woman overcame every discouragement and kept going, without any Business Thinking to slow her down, learning and growing as she did.
Eventually, the woman was serving hundreds of people and receiving money and other forms of value in exchange.
The Others called it a Successful Business.
The woman smiled and called it Living.
