It all started on New Year’s Day in 2016…
After falling asleep before midnight — yes, I am that party pooper — I woke up at 3am with an Idea.
I would have 100 conversations with inspiring entrepreneurs.
It seemed like the perfect way to discover who I wanted to work with in a new coaching market, how I could help them, and who was drawn to me. I’d make a video after each conversation to share my journey.
It was an inspiring challenge that would move me forward, and felt much less scary than “starting a new business.”
I loved the idea!
But…
Every time I thought of my 100 Conversations Project, the fires of inspiration were immediately extinguished by insecurities masquerading as practical concerns.
“How will you find time for all those conversations?”
“You don’t even know that many people!”
“Who’s going to take time out of their busy schedule to talk with you?”
I sat on this Big Idea – the one that would launch The Awakened Business and change my whole life — for NINE MONTHS.
Now, during this time I hired my first business coach, Elizabeth Ellis, and it took that long before I brought that idea to her. When I did, she loved it!
Immediately I felt the dread and resistance. “I just don’t know how I’ll find time for 100 conversations,” I whined.
“Why don’t you start with just ten people?” Elizabeth asked.
I blinked. Ten conversations sounded reasonable. I could do that.
After our call, I sent invitations to ten entrepreneurs who inspired me, and my 100 Conversations Challenge was ON.
Within a few weeks, my conversations were happening and I had a new website and YouTube channel for posting my videos.
While it was two years before I completed those 100 conversations, the lessons I learned along the way were priceless, and The Awakened Business wouldn’t exist today without them.
The moral of this story:
Don’t wait until you’re ready.
Don’t wait until you “have time.”
Or you end up like me, wasting nine months (or nine years) stalling on the creation of your dreams.
You get ready after taking action.
The time appears when you start.
Please don’t BS yourself like I did with excuses about why now isn’t the right time. If you want it, do it.
If you don’t want it right now, that’s okay.
But if you want to create something, take a small action today. Right now. You never know what adventures will come from it.
Yours in love and play,
Steph
